Sir Alex Ferguson had roped Ronaldo in as a 17-year-old following the insistence of the players after a splendid performance in a pre-season friendly. The Portuguese settled into the squad right away and sealed a spot on the flank and evolved to be one of the best players.

He completed the English trophy cabinet and also won the Champions League in 2008. For his exploits in the season, he was rewarded with his first Ballon d’Or.

The 36-year-old left Old Trafford after the 2008/09 season where they won the Premier League, but fell short to FC Barcelona in the Champions League. He moved to La Liga giants Real Madrid in a then-record 80 million transfer.

He transformed into a lethal goal scorer with Los Blancos and earned more accolades. After winning his fifth Champions League, Ronaldo shockingly chose to switch sides and joined Serie A outfit Juventus.

While Ronaldo achieved domestic glory in Italy, he failed to move past the quarter-finals in three seasons with the club. He announced his intention to leave yesterday with his agent firmly in contact with Manchester City.

Upon calls from his former teammates like Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, and former manager Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo opened his stance for a deal with his former club. Manchester United prepared a contract that was approved by the player.
