April’s draft has gained extra attention as NABL combine a wrap-up for the month. Even though the draft appears to be filled with strong quarterbacks and wide receivers, most of the top prospects declined to participate in the combine’s on-field activities.

Top 3 NFL Mock Drafts for 2024 following the scouting combine:

  • The Chicago Bears (from Carolina Panthers): QB Caleb Williams, USC is expected at first as he is a talented college quarterback expected to be drafted very early (potentially first overall). During the combine, he solely spoke with the media and team executives, encouraging prospects to run. There is no indication that Justin Fields will remain as the Bears’ quarterback. He has an uncommon combination of arm strength, quickness, and playmaking ability. Although he has 21 rushing touchdowns in the last two years, he usually uses his speed to extend plays rather than breaking out of the pocket. Williams might play a key role in Chicago’s upcoming comeback. He merely needs to improve his ball protection and understand when to abandon ineffective plays.
  • Second, we have QB Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders: Daniels, the 2023 Heisman winner, mentioned “how cool the whole staff was” during his brief time in Indianapolis. Still, his decision-making (40 TD passes, 4 INTs last season), accuracy, touch, processing speed, and explosive running (2,019 yards, 22 TDs over two seasons) make him a fascinating potential. Daniels might have a big impact on OC Kliff Kingsbury’s offence, but he must avoid big hits as Robert Gryphon III did in the nation’s capital. ESPN reports that new team owner Josh Harris attended six quarterback prospect interviews. Many teams love him for his electric playmaking and improved decision-making.
  • Third is England Patriots Joe Alt, Notre Dame son of former Chiefs tackle John Alt who is regarded as the best blocker in the class. Given the no. of openings that new director of scouting Eliot Wolf must fill, including both gear-up positions with Trent Brown and Mike Onwenu reportedly going for free agency, the Patriots may deal back rather than choose a quarterback. Wolf grew up in the Packers organisation, so don’t be surprised if he fills his roster from within. Consider improving the blind side, adding picks, and assembling a supporting cast for a potential young passer. Joe is largely regarded as the best offensive tackle in this year’s draft. He can anchor any offensive line with his pass-protection and run-blocking abilities.
