Lindy Ruff, the head coach of the New Jersey Devils, has been relieved of his duties. The decision came on Monday, sending shockwaves through the hockey world. In a surprising move, the Devils have named Travis Green as the interim head coach, hoping for a fresh start.

Lindy Ruff’s tenure with the Devils spanned four seasons, during which he amassed a record of 128-125-28 since his appointment in July 2020. Expectations were high this season, especially after the team’s impressive performance last year. The Devils secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2018 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Second Round.

However, inconsistency plagued the team this season. Defensive struggles and goaltending woes contributed to their underwhelming performance. The Devils currently sit eight points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Detroit Red Wings for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. General manager Tom Fitzgerald expressed disappointment, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to excellence.

“I take full responsibility”-Lindy Ruff opens up after getting fired.

“I take full responsibility,”Lindy  Ruff said after a 4-1 loss to the Lightning at Prudential Center on Feb. 25. “You want to win, and we’ve dealt with a lot. Players want to win. I’m responsible for the wins and losses, who gets on the ice and who doesn’t get on the ice.”

Travis Green steps into the spotlight as the new interim coach. Previously coaching the Vancouver Canucks, Green brings experience and a fresh perspective. His task is clear: guide the Devils to a strong finish and reignite their playoff hopes. The team’s passionate fan base demands wins, and Green’s leadership will be put to the test.

The Devils face the Florida Panthers in Green’s debut game on Tuesday. As the season enters its final stretch, all eyes are on the team’s performance under their new coach. Will Green’s arrival spark a turnaround, or will the Devils continue to struggle? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the hockey world is watching closely as the Devils embark on this new chapter.
