Yordenis Ugás out indefinitely after suffering broken orbital bone against Errol Spence Jr

Errol Spence Jr has become the new, three belt unified welterweight champion with a victory over Yordenis Ugás this Saturday but in the process, Ugas has been left with an orbital bone fracture, which has put the Cuban boxer out of action indefinitely.

Yordenis Ugas suffered the orbital bone fracture in round 7 against Spence

Defending his WBA (Super) belt after his first title defense against the legendary Manny Pacquiao in August last year, Ugas’ title unification fight against WBC and IBF champion Spence at the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas on 16th April ended with a 10th round TKO victory for “The Truth” who is now the unified WBC, WBA (Super) and IBF champion at 147.

Following the fight, Ugas’ team revealed that the 35-year-old suffered a fracture in his right orbital bone in the seventh round of the match and continued the fight for three more rounds. His right eye had an alarming swelling and even though he continued after consultation with the doctor, by the 10th round it was determined that Ugas was unable to see out of his right eye, and the referee had stopped the bout.

“First of all I wanted to apologize for not coming to thank everyone who was supporting me personally after the fights,” said Ugas on Instagram as he revealed the injury, “I have a fracture in my eye and in the next few days the doctors will say how they will treat me. Last night I spent all morning in a hospital and I write these words with only one eye, the other is still closed. But very important for me to write it for you guys.”

“I want to thank and thank my family, my team and every person who was supporting me. I want to congrats Errol Spence Jr, a great champ.. and sharing the ring with him was an honor, he came as always sharp, and in the last rounds (7) he hit me in the eye and everything was even more difficult… the best man on top won From the ring,” added Ugas.
