WWE talents to attend counselling session in light of the Speaking Out Movement

All WWE talents shall reportedly receive counselling. The session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28.

Keeping the pandemic situation in mind, the session will take place through online video stream, and the main topic of discussion will be the ways to keep healthy relationships, especially amongst co-workers.

The Florida-based Total Life Counselling is the organization which will conduct the session with each talent. After a presentation which will be seen by all, individual talents will receive links to join their respective sessions.

The news was reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer also mentioned that the Speaking Out Movement in the UK wrestling scene, which has, amongst others, pointed fingers at WWE contacted talents such as Travis Banks. The Matt Riddle / WWE VS Candy Cartwright lawsuit is also a major factor behind the decision.

The Speaking Out movement or #SpeakingOut is a social movement against emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual harassment and sexual abuse in professional wrestling where people publicize their allegations of sex crimes committed by powerful and/or prominent individuals. The movement is similar to the Me Too movement. The phrase ″Speaking Out″ began to spread on Twitter in June 2020.

The movement started when on June 17, 2020, David Starr was accused of sexual assault by a former girlfriend and was stripped of his titles in many promotions.

The following day, numerous people in and out of the pro wrestling industry accused several wrestlers, promoters, personalities, and journalists of sexual misconduct. The hashtag “Speaking Out” began to spread on social media when people told their stories.

Many talents contracted in major promotions were accused by the movement. All Elite Wrestling wrestler Jimmy Havoc was accused of emotional and verbal abuse by former partner, Rebecca Crow, and was sent to therapy and later released by the promotion. Sammy Guevara’s crude comments about Sasha Banks also had him go to therapy before Banks and Guevara settled their differences.

WWE released Joe Coffey, Ligero and Jack Gallagher, NXT UK talents, due to accusations in the movement. Other WWE talents accused by #SpeakingOut includes Jordan Devlin, Matt Riddle, Travis Banks, Sid Scala, Wolfgang, Velveteen Dream,
