WWE is reportedly trying to book a huge match between two former WWE Champions who have never faced each other in the course of their respective careers.

WWE IS REPORTEDLY TRYING TO SPICE UP SUMMERSLAM WITH ROLLINS VS EDGE

The current idea for the upcoming edition of Summerslam is for the promotion to book and advertise it as a major event equal to WrestleMania in its array of important matches and surprises. The most persistent rumour sees John Cena face “The Head Of The Table” Roman Reigns for the latter’s WWE Universal Championship.

However, even if that actually finds a place on the Summerslam card, the company wants another huge match to add to the depth of the event, and they want it to involve competitors from their friday night show as well. According to reports, Seth Rollins VS Edge is the first-time match they are trying to book.

When Edge returned to the promotion as a competitor, many first-time matches were spoken of. A match against Seth Rollins, who matches him in the opportunist moniker owing to his iconic “Heist Of The Century” WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania, has long been touted as a suitable competitor for “The Ultimate Opportunist”.

Rollins and Edge, of course, has never faced each other in their respective careers. When Edge was a top-tier competitor in the company, Rollins, as Tyler Black, used to ply his trade in the indies, most famously at Ring Of Honor. When Rollins joined the company, won the NXT Championship and got promoted to the main roster as part of The Shield, Edge was already retired.

EDGE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE HIS DEFEAT AT WRESTLEMANIA 37

Edge has not been seen in the WWE ring since his loss at the main event of the second night of WrestleMania 37. However, he has been advertised to appear for multiple future WWE events, starting from the July 16 SmackDown episode from Houston, which will see WWE back on the road for the first time since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the latest edition of Hell In A Cell, Rollins’ match with Cesaro, one of the many WrestleMania rematches on the show, saw the former defeat him via pinfall. The match has provided Rollins his first win against Cesaro in the midst of their current rivalry; “The Swiss Superman” still stands taller at two victories. Whether the rivalry would go on or if the Hell In A Cell match was the definitive end of it, only time could tell.
