WWE Hell In A Cell 2021: Champions retain their titles

WWE Hell In A Cell 2021 was recently held at Yeungling Centre, Tampa, Florida. It was the 13th event under the Hell in a Cell chronology and the first to be held in June, as the event is generally held in October. It was only the second time for the event to not be held in October.

NO TITLE CHANGE TOOK PLACE

In the kickoff show, Natalya took on Mandy Rose, with Tamina and Dana Brooke staying ringside. In the end, Rose avoided an armbar by reaching for the ropes. A Jackknife pin attempt by Rose was unsuccessful, and Natalya put Rose under the sharpshooter for the submission victory.

The main show began with an introductory video package followed by some pyrotechnic display. Bayley faced SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair inside the Hell In A Cell structure. After a gruelling match in which Belair’s long hair was repeatedly turned into a disadvantage by the challenger, the duo used all sorts of weaponry. In thw end, Belair hit a senton splash with Bayley’s back on the ladder. The Champion then hit Bayley with the Kiss Of Death to retain her Championship.

Cesaro took on Seth Rollins in yet another match in their rivalry. After a match with no clear dominating competitor, Cesaro’s Sharpshooter attempt was foiled by “The Messiah”, who went on to apply an inside cradle for the victory. Alexa Bliss then went on to face Shayna Baszler, with Nia Jax and Reginald present ringside. In what was an unexpectedly regular match, Bliss used mind games sparsely, winning the match via pinfall by hitting a DDT and Twisted Bliss.

In the next match, career rivals Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens faced each other. The latter came out victorious after hitting the Helluva Kick on his opponent. The following contest was between WWE Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley and challenger Charlotte Flair. Ripley managed to retain her Championship, although she lost the match via disqualification resulting from her swinging the top of the announcer’s table on Flair.

THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WAS THE MAIN EVENT

The main event had Bobby Lashley defend his WWE Championship against former Champion Drew McIntyre Inside the Hell In A Cell structure. After a brutal match, an anticlimactic finish saw MVP holding on to McIntyre’s feet, leading to Lashley rolling up his opponent to win the match and retain his Championship.
