During the conversation Blake told Van Vliet the new name he will be going by on the independent circuit. He went on to reveal that it is inspired by his brother’s name and his own last name.

Blake recalled pitching few names while he was back in NXT. He said that now he chose the new name as he could connect with it.

He said:

“I’m going by Westin Blake. When I was in NXT the first time, I pitched a bunch on names. I was always told it’s best if you can have a name that you can connect with. I have an older brother named Blake, so that was a big driving factor.

He added: “Most of my life I have been called Weston, because that’s my last name. When I gave them the list of NXT names, Wesley Blake was the winner. They had 3 or 4 on there, I can’t remember them but they were not that good.”

Blake had a fine run as part of The Forgotten Sons back in NXT. However, the stable’s main roster run did not go as per the plan.

They had portrayed themselves as American patriots with the background Cutler and Ryker had in the marines. The gimmick was dropped due to a tweet by Jaxson Ryker supporting President Donald Trump which led to backstage backstage heat and soon after that the stable was taken off the programming.

He said: “When we first pitched the name we wanted to use Prisoners of Society or Prisoners of the System.”

He said that WWE didn’t like the second name as they believed that would bring NXT in a bad light. Ultimately, The Forgotten Sons was picked as the name to be used.
