Currently, world no 1 Novak Djokovic, lost to Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles tennis tournament that was held in Tokyo. The tennis ace looked dejected after the loss. He had hoped to win all the Grand Slam tournaments this year. He was hoping for a Grand Slam, but unfortunately, it did not happen.
Until his loss at the Tokyo Olympics, he had set a winning streak after three Grand Slam tournaments– French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon Open, back to back. His record alone this year raised everyone’s expectations.
His performance at the Olympics until the semifinals was exemplary. His opponents did not stand a chance against him. Djokovic himself was pretty confident in his skills and was sure that he was improving after every match.
The onlookers had expected Zverev to meet with the same end as the other tennis players who dared to challenge him but instead he surprised everyone. His serves and impeccable forehand allowed him to win the match beating Djokovic.
In the past, Djokovic has tried tricks like taking a bathroom break to break his opponent’s momentum, but it was to no avail this time. One thing that did not work in Djokovic’s favour was that at the Tokyo Olympics the men’s singles tennis match was played in a set of two-of-three and not the usual three-of-five set.
There was no comeback for Djokovic as the score displayed was 0-4. After the win, Zvervev said in an interview, that he could not believe that he had just won a medal for his country Germany and he had just defeated the tennis, Master Djokovic. Djokovic was unavailable for comment after the game.
The tennis ace is to be seen again for the mixed doubles alongside Nina Stojanovic that is taking part on Friday.
