WWE’s latest edition of Elimination Chamber could not have been more awesome for The Miz, who exited the show as the new WWE Champion!
THE MIZ BECAME THE CHAMPION FOR THE SECOND TIME IN HIS CAREER
The 11th Elimination Chamber pay per view event was broadcast from the WWE ThunderDome, hosted at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. In the main event, Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship in Raw’s Elimination Chamber match against Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, accompanied by his bodyguard Omos, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, and Sheamus. The match ended when Styles went for a Phenomenal Forearm on McIntyre, but McIntyre caught him in mid-air with a Claymore Kick to retain the title.
When the match was over and the chamber was removed, McIntyre was attacked by a frustrated Bobby Lashley, who had lost his United States Championship earlier in the show. Lashley applied the Hurt Lock on McIntyre, leading to The Miz running to the ring and cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. In a short match, he hit the Skull-Crushing Finale on the Champion and pinned him to win the title for the second time in his career.
HIS 1ST REIGN WAS ALSO THROUGH A MITB CASH-IN
His only previous WWE Championship reign was also a result of a Money In The Bank cash-in. In that case, he cashed in following a successful WWE Championship defense by Randy Orton against Wade Barrett to become the new WWE Champion. His first title defense was, for some reason, against Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, where he defended with some help from Michael Cole. Over the next few months, he defended the title against Randy Orton and Lawler.
In what has been called the highest point in his career, he main-evented WrestleMania. In the main event of WrestleMania XXVII on April 3, he successfully defended the WWE Championship against John Cena, following interference from The Rock, who then attacked him afterwards.
Fans have long been clamouring for a The Miz title run, most notably around his Intercontinental Championship reign during the early days of Smackdown Live and during his feud with Daniel Bryan.
