WBA (Super), WBO, and IBF lightweight champion of the world Teófimo López has been gearing up for his upcoming title defense against mandatory contender George Kambosos Jr and hints at a phenomenal commentator panel for the fight dated either May 29th or June 5th.

There has been a lot of drama surrounding Teófimo López’s next fight. The 23-year-old American has had a series of spat with his promotional company Top Rank regarding the Kambosos fight purse.

Ever since hosting the spectacular Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr bout back in November last year, Ryan Kavanaugh’s Triller has been a viral name in the global boxing fandom, and their popularity has gone up by leaps and bounds since willing the Teófimo vs Kambosos purse bid, where they outbid both Top Rank as well as Matchroom Boxing.

While Teófimo did not reveal the names of the commentators for his next fight, the Tyson vs Jones match saw boxing legend ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard and former NXT commentator Mauro Ranello behind the headsets, while American rapper Snoop Dogg won hearts with his brilliant social media commentary.

All in all, “The Takeover” makes it clear once again that his timer with Top Rank has ended.

“It’s an even for me. There’s too much damage that has been done. We look forward to seeing what happens next. The damage has been done; there’s no way of going back,” Teófimo added.

Teófimo López defeated Vasil Lomachenko back in October last year in Las Vegas.

The top hierarchy of the light division currently has Teófimo as the unified champion, Devin Haney as the WBC titleholder, while Ryan Garcia holds the WBC interim status.

However, Teófimo still puts former unified lightweight champion Lomachenko ahead of both Haney and Garcia, just behind himself at the number 2 spot.

“He’s still a top dude,” Teofimo asserted regarding the Ukrainian pugilist, “after me, it’s him in my division.”
