It did not take much time for the next case of racial abuse to come to the surface after Wilfred Zaha received a set of racist messages from a 12-year-old who has been brought into custody.

After Sheffield United’s resounding victory over Chelsea, McGoldrick received a fair share of racial abuse and proceeded to share it with the world through his Instagram story. The caption of the screenshot was titled “2020 and this is life”.

The Premier League club has vouched for their support for the 32-year-old striker and have claimed that such behaviour cannot be tolerated or continued. The Yorkshire club released a statement which read:

“As a club, we will support David McGoldrick and will do all we can to find the perpetrator of this disgusting message.

“We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice.

“This cannot continue. Something needs to change.”

The police authorities from South Yorkshire have confirmed that they are in contact with the club and will continue to work with the club in relation with this matter.

David McGoldrick, who has had a tough start to life in the Premier League has struck a rich vein of form after scoring against Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and also netting twice in Sheffield United’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Manager Chris Wilder heaped praise on the striker and stated:

“It’s great that he’s got off the mark. I just wish there were 30,000 in this stadium because they would have taken the roof off tonight.

“They know what he brings to the football club and I certainly know what he brings to the team.”

It is a sad state to see Premier League players getting racially abused in spite of the awareness being spread at the moment with the Black Lives Matter movement.
