Formula 1 (F1), the pinnacle of motorsport, has long been a male-dominated arena. However, there’s an untold story of fascinating women drivers who dared to break through the barriers and participate and some of them work in a team despite knowing about the sport and helping teams behind the paddock. Over the years Sebastian Vettel noticed a change in the sport which he shared recently.

As per the post shared on X, Kay Burley asked Vettel about how women are treated in Formula 1. In a response Vettel started by saying that F1 is changing however he labeled the sport as an “Old Fashioned Business” by pointing out that there are a lot of areas such as initially when he joined there were less number of women in the paddock but when he left the number increased and that is why he think F1 is changing in a good manner.
However, Sebastian Vettel believes that there is a lot of room for improvement but still everywhere else in the sport, there is room for improvement. The path is never easy for women as they face a lot of obstacles while they come in a male-dominated sport, Let’s take a look.
The Challenges for Females in F1
- Stereotypes and Prejudices: The prevailing belief that motorsport was a male domain discouraged women from pursuing racing careers. Stereotypes about physical strength and endurance persisted.
- Limited Opportunities: Women faced limited opportunities to prove themselves in lower racing categories, hindering their progression to F1.
- Lack of Representation: The absence of female role models within F1 perpetuated the notion that women didn’t belong.
