The Dakar Spirit – Toby Price and Skyler Howes Stop Mid Race to Help Injured Sebastian Buhler

In the middle of the untamed desert we get to see the best sportsmanship. Recently, Sebastian Buhler a German motorcyclist of the Hero team was involved in a motorcycle accident. And two of riders stopped there race to help there fallen comrade.

Buhler was injured during the third stage of the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. After a 360km special stage he toppled off his Motorcycle. And had to abandon the race.

The German experienced severe pain in his lower back after the fall but somehow managed to stay conscious. Fellow racers Toby Price(Red Bull KTM) and Skyler Howes (Honda Works)displayed some outstanding sportsmanship as they stopped to help  Buhler instead of carrying on with the Race. Price and Howes’s behavior earned them praise from all over the world. The amount of time Price and Howes lost during their halt to check up on Buhler will be compensated at the finish line.

Buhler out of the Dakar Rally ?

The 29-year-old was airlifted to the nearest hospital after the accident. He was riding in the top 10 when he crashed around 360km into Stage 3. Buhler has not sustained any serious injury, he is expected to recover and make a comeback soon. But the Germans Dakar 2024 journey has ended, as it is not allowed Rally Gp competitors to continue the rally if they don’t finish a stage.

“Unfortunately, I had a really bad crash after around 360 kilometres of the stage. I was taken to hospital and after examinations, the doctors found that I had broken two vertebrae,” explained the Hero rider in the evening. “Fortunately, I don’t need any operations.”

Bühler continued: “It’s very unfortunate, but I consider myself lucky that I’m still doing so well. A big thank you to Toby and Skyler for stopping to help me. Thank you to everyone for the great support that has already been sent my way. I now have time to recover.”

After Buhler crashed out of Stage 3 and Joaquim Rodrigues also out of the rally after his Stage 1 crash,  Indian squad Hero Motorsports was down to just two riders. Hero team is still standing on solid ground even after all the setbacks they suffered. Ross Branch holding on to the overall lead of the rally is keeping hopes alive for the Hero team
