Former WWE NXT cruiserweight Santos Escobar has his eyes focused on one thing, to become the main event of WrestleMania, and no amount of title losses is going to change that.

In the world of professional wrestling, the night of WrestleMania is singlehandedly the greatest event in the sport and for any wrestler, just being a part of the grand occasion is one milestone, if not being featured in the main event.

For Santos Escobar, who recently lost his NXT cruiserweight title after holding on to it for almost a year, wants to push for more greatness in his pro wrestling career, and doesn’t just want to be remembered as a cruiserweight titleholder.

And to do the same, the Mexican aims to be featured as the main event of WrestleMania, and is cent percent willing to put in all the effort necessary to not only get to “The Grandest Stage of Them All”, but to become a superstar luchador in his country.

Have to work extra hard to get there: Santos Escobar’s target is fixated on WrestleMania

Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated in a recent interview, Santos Escobar outlined the upcoming steps he wants to take in his career, and one step at a time, he wants to get into Raw and SmackDown and eventually his goal.

“This business is about confidence,” Escobar said in the interview, “of course, you need the ability and the skill and the moves, but you need to have confidence. That translates into success. For me, I could be cruiserweight champion forever. I also want to be the next great Mexican wrestler.”

“I want to be the main event of WrestleMania,” the 37-year-old went on, “to achieve that, I’m going to have to work extra hard to get there, and go through different moments, like the cruiserweight division. Maybe next is the North American division. After that, maybe the NXT title division. Then Raw, then SmackDown.

I’m never content with my position. I’m always trying to evolve and offer something different. The company sees something in me, and I just need to bring it,” added Escobar.

Back when he was known as “El Hijo del Fantasma,” Santos Escobar defeated Drake Maverick in the final of the interim Cruiserweight Title tournament last year and at NXT: New Years Evil, he defeated Gran Metalik to retain the belt.

On 8th April this year, the original Cruiserweight champion Jordan Devlin, who was absent from WWE due to the COVID-19 pandemic, locked horns against Escobar at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver where the latter won the fight, becoming the undisputed champion. However, after a 321-day reign as the cruiserweight titleholder, Escobar lost his belt against Kushida on 13th April.
