Renowned author Salman Rushdie was removed from the ventilation room and on Saturday he was able to speak, after the day he was stabbed continuously as he prepared to give a lecture in upstate New York.

The 75-year-old author was hospitalized with serious injuries, but in the evening another fellow author Aatish Taseer tweeted that Rushdie was ‘off the ventilator and talking (and joking).’

Even though Taseer later deleted the tweet, Rushdie’s agent Andrew Wylie later confirmed Associated Press that the information shared by Taseer shared was actually correct. Though no further details were collected.

In the attack, Rushdie had sustained serious injuries. As reported earlier by Wylie, The Satanic Verses author suffered damage in his liver and nerves in an arm, aside from potentially losing one of his eyes.

Previously that day, a man was charged with attacking him on Friday at the Chautauqua Institution. It is a nonprofit education and retreat center, adjured at fault to attempted murder and impose charges which a lawyer called ‘preplanned’ crime.

Hadi Matar’s prosecutor entered the appeal on his behalf during an indictment in western New York. The conjecture emerged in court wearing a black and white jumpsuit and a white face mask, with his hands cuffed in front of him.

The 24-year-old Matar intentionally took steps to put himself in a position to harm Rushdie, for getting an advance pass to the event where the author was speaking and showed up the previous day bearing a false ID.

Meantime, a physician who viewed the stabbing of Salman Rushdie at the western New York event said that even with the presence of double security of two police officers , it was the crowd that eventually paced in to suppress the attacker.

Dr. Martin Haskell of Dayton, Ohio, told Daily Mail that “The audience subdued the assailant and the state patrolmen quickly then handcuffed him.”

Dr. Haskell further stated Rushdie had both the state trooper and another sheriff’s deputy nearby acting as security for the event – but that the knife-wielding assailant still seemed to run onto the stage unobstructed. However, it is still unknown where the officers were standing when the attack took place.

“He had been here for apparently a couple of days sort of casing the place. It wasn’t something that just happened spontaneously,” Dr. Haskell added.

Padma Lakshmi “relieved” for her ex-Husband Salman Rushdie recovering from “nightmare”

Activist Padma Lakshmi recently took to Twitter to pray for the recovery her ex-husband Salman Rushdie.

On Sunday, the author and TV host stated in a tweet that she feels comfortable following the news about Rushdie’s latest condition after he was stabbed during an attack in upstate New York this week earlier.

“Relieved @SalmanRushdie is pulling through after Friday’s nightmare,” Lakshmi, 51, tweeted. “Worried and wordless, can finally exhale. Now hoping for swift healing.”

At the same time, Rushdie’s son Zafar commented on  his father’s current health condition.

“My father remains in critical condition,” Zafar told NBC News, “We are extremely relieved that yesterday he was taken off the ventilator and additional oxygen and he was able to say a few words.”
