Liverpool winger Sadio Mane marks the second player to have contracted the disease in the club after new signing Thiago Alcantara. Liverpool claims that the player was showing minor symptoms but is currently in good health.

Sadio Mane had started and scored during Liverpool’s last Premier League game against Arsenal and is set to miss their upcoming trip to Villa Park to face Aston Villa.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will hope to avail the services of both the players by the time Premier League returns after the International break. Liverpool have a crucial away clash against high-flying Everton right after the International break.

As a result of being diagnosed with COVID-19, Sadio Mane will not partake in the International friendlies against Morocco and Mauritania after being selected in Senegal’s squad.

The winger had started the Premier League on a bright note after a brace against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and a crucial goal against Arsenal that brought the side back into the game after trailing initially.

Klopp unhappy with International fixture scheduling during an ongoing pandemic

COVID-19 has Jürgen Klopp “Concerned” About International Break - The Liverpool Offside

Ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Aston Villa for their Premier League fixture, Jurgen Klopp commented about his concern of Liverpool players departing for International duty. He said:

“As a football club you are pretty alone in these moments, we send the players away and then we have another challenge because we have to play a Premier League game on a Saturday after they have travelled from, maybe Peru, on the Thursday or Friday.

“You have to make sure you bring the players home in the quickest and safest way and then we have to see how they are before we try to get a result on Saturday.”

Liverpool are currently unbeaten in the Premier League so far with two wins and a draw so far in their first three matches. The team, however, was eliminated from the Carabao Cup on penalties to Arsenal and have drawn against Ajax, Atalanta and Midtjylland in the Champions League group stage.
