Just as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans were gearing themselves up for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski‘s return to the New England Patriots in their upcoming Week 4 fixture, a huge blow to the defending champions have arrived in the form of Gronkowski’s latest injury. The former Patriots stalwart, who won the Super Bowl LV alongside Brady, suffered multiple broken ribs last Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, and the latest reports suggest that he could be sidelined for several weeks.
Rob Gronkowski’s return to the Patriots ground isn’t happening, with multiple weeks of absence on the way
The claim was made by Adam Schefter of ESPN, who stated that while the primary X-ray reports came clean, the subsequent MRI test results brought forward the bad news, and the tight end could miss multiple weeks due to the injury, starting with this week’s much awaited Patriots vs Buccaneers showdown.
“Bucs’ TE Rob Gronkowski suffered multiple fractured ribs last Sunday that threaten to sideline him for multiple weeks, sources tell ESPN. Initial X-rays were clean but follow up MRIs were not. “We held out hope all week he’d be ready,” said one source. “He’s a different breed.” tweeted Schefter.
Early in the second half of last week’s fixture against the Rams, Gronkowski collided with linebacker Terrell Lewis after receiving a pass from Brady and was hit in the mid section. Even though he marched off the field on his feet, Gronkowski was in visible pain and left the pitch while the Bucs were behind 21-7, as the match ended in a 34-24 defeat for the defending champions.
Ahead of the Patriots clash, its a massive setback for Buccaneers as well as Brady who will be missing his longtime mate beside him as they travel to Gillette Stadium tonight. The 32-year-old, who has been in stupendous form this season, having registered four touchdown receptions in just three games, will be a huge void to the team as he misses out the next weeks away from the pitch.
