Paul Heyman recently made an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, where he talked about the potential matchup between WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns and The Rock.
Paul Heyman says The Rock wants a match with Roman Reigns
Words of the clash between the real-life cousins, Roman Reigns and The Rock inside the squared circle have been floating for quite some time now. Paul Heyman, the ‘Special Counsel’ has teased the fans with a potential bout between the two during the interview.
Paul Heyman said that The Rock was keen and he is the one who called out the current WWE Universal Champion. Neither Heyman nor Reigns called out The Rock. He also mentioned Reigns as a bigger star than ‘The Great One’
He said, “Oh, I’m sure Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson sure hopes so. Let’s examine this from a realistic point of view – Roman Reigns never mentioned Dwayne Johnson’s name. Paul Heyman never mentioned Dwayne Johnson’s name.”
“So you can’t categorize this as ‘The biggest star on FOX Network’, let alone the biggest star on SmackDown, let alone the biggest star in WWE is looking to call out a bigger star. We never mentioned Dwayne Johnson’s name“, said Paul Heyman.
He claims that ‘The Great One’ is keen to face ‘The Tribal Chief’ in order to get a celebrity rub off. Heyman said that The Rock is trying to seek box office attraction.
“The Rock is positioning himself to get the celebrity rub off of Roman Reigns, and you know what? God bless The Rock for doing it. He’s always thinking; he’s very sharp. He’s always thinking box office, but he’s not the only box office attraction beeping in front of Vince McMahon’s door saying, ‘I want to work with Roman Reigns’.
However, according to Paul Heyman, The Rock is not the only one who is trying to get the box office attraction. Stars, sports celebrities and mixed martial artists(specifically mentioning Daniel Cormier) are among the others who also want the attraction.
He added, “Every other huge box office attraction, from celebrities, to sports celebrities, to mixed martial artists – Daniel Cormier – to sports entertainers, to legends from sports entertainment, are all banging down Vince’s door saying, ‘Please put me in the main event of WrestleMania to work with Roman Reigns.’”
Heyman addressed Reigns as the single hottest box office attraction in WWE and the biggest star on FOX.
It is still unknown how WWE will work the match between the cousins if they ever consider doing it. Wrestlemania 37 could be ideal for the bout.
