Mike Tyson returned to the ring after fifteen long years in an exhibition bout against veteran Roy Jones Jr. Sharing the card was YouTuber Jake Paul, who managed to knock out former NBA player Nate Robinson in the second round. Following the event, Tyson proclaimed that boxing should be thankful for the fact that YouTubers ventured into the sport.
The 54-year-old felt that boxing was losing steam with the mixed martial arts venture UFC leading the way for entertainment in the field. The involvement of YouTubers such as Jake Paul and KSI have managed to turn a few heads from the octagon to the squared circle according to Tyson.
“My ego says so many things but my reality is; they help boxing so much. Boxing owes these guys YouTube boxers some respect, Now we got these YouTubers, 20 million subscribers? Boxing is coming back thanks to these YouTube boxers.
“I believe the more anyone boxes, the better it is. Boxing has taken some beatings since the UFC has been around.”
Tyson added that people like Jake Paul deserve a belt for reviving the sport. He continued:
“Give them some belts because these guys make boxing alive. Boxing was pretty much a dying sport. The UFC was kicking our butt.

The YouTuber, who boasts 20 million subscribers on his channel secured an easy win against Nate Robinson. The former Knicks player was knocked out twice across the first two rounds and never seemed to have the upper hand during the short contest.
Paul knocked out Robinson in the second round to finish the bout once and for all. Following the win, he called out prominent MMA fighters such as Dillion Danis and Conor McGregor.
When asked about the earlier bout, Tyson stated that he did not particularly liked the brutal nature of the knockout but expressed delight at the fact that Paul is keen to explore more into the world of combat sports.
