The return of Mike Tyson to the squared circle has been one of the most impactful events in the combat sports community. The boxing virtuoso’s comeback to boxing took fifteen years and surprised everyone with his performance against Roy Jones Jr at 54 years of age in November 2020. Now, almost one and a half years later, Tyson revealed what pushed him to pick up the gloves again- a DMT Toad.

Tyson, the former heavyweight champion of the world clashed against Jones on 28th November 2020 in an eight round exhibition fight against that took place at the Staples Center. The fight, which garnered gargantuan attention among the combat sports fandom and clocked a whopping 1.6 million PPV sales ended in a split draw, as the three judges- Chad Dawson, Christy Martin and Vinny Pazienza scored 76–76 draw, 79–73 for Tyson, and 76–80 for Jones respectively.
“Iron Mike” is known for his outlandish anecdotes- a trait he shares with none other than Joe Rogan, and the two recently came together on Rogan’s podcast when Tyson shared the motivation behing his boxing comeback, and it was none other than a DMT Toad which told him to go back in the ring.
“I did this toad, this DMT stuff and I lost the weight. I don’t know what happened, I just said I’m going to do this. I did this toad and the toad said, ‘you gotta do this… you have to do it,” said Tyson, to which Rogan replied, “The toad told you? The DMT toad told you, you have to fight?”
“Yeah, ‘You have to do it’ and I lost the weight,” Tyson went on, “It started with me fighting Bob Sapp, that was going to be the first fight. The fight with Roy Jones was supposed to be with Bob Sapp.”
“Roy Jones got involved, other fighters got involved, [Evander] Holyfield got involved and it turned into a fiasco. Then the young guy, Jake Paul, he got involved and that’s how the birth of Jake Paul became.”
