UFC strawweight contender Loopy Godinez will be seen in action again against Emily Ducote this Saturday, 20th May at UFC Vegas 73 – a fight which the Mexican-Canadian fighter accepted on very short notice of less than three weeks.

I was already training and feeling good: Loopy Godinez

Loopy Godinez will have her second fight of the year after just over a month since her first fight of 2023 at UFC 287, when she defeated Cynthia Calvillo on April 8th in Miami via split decision.

Speaking on Just Scrap Radio on BJPenn.com, the Aguascalientes-born revealed that she had no intention of rushing back into the Octagon, as she planned to join the team of current flyweight champion Alexa Grasso.

“They were asking me about Vancouver and I even said I wasn’t sure because maybe I needed a full camp,” said Godinez. “But I was already training and feeling good so I was thinking I want to be on the Vancouver card. But, I didn’t ask for anything and was feeling this good and got this message to fight May 20 so we are ready. I had a long camp for Calvillo so it was a matter of game planning for this one.”

“I’m not super big or anything, it’s just like okay, I’ll take a short notice fight but I can do it but I 120lbs is about eating good and training hard so that way I don’t have to drain myself. It’s all about performing,” she added.

Ducote, the former Invicta FC champion, is coming off a loss against Angela Hill in December last year and will be hungry for a victorious comeback. While there was less time for Godinez to prepare for the fight, she is confident on walking out of the Octagon as the winner this Saturday.

“I knew who she was,” she went on about her opponent, “I watched a few more fights and it’s a great fight for me… I’m excited about this matchup. We have a really good game plan for her and I’m excited to execute that.”

If Godinez does defeat Ducote at UFC Vegas 73, she hasn’t planned much about her next move but expects to stay active throughout the rest of the year.

“Honestly, I haven’t even thought about that. I’m just excited to go in there and fight and do what I do… I would like to fight another two times this year, that would be great but maybe three, who knows. I’ll be ready, I’m always training and this is my job,” Godinez signed off.
