Lidia Valentin tackled physical issues to compete so far

Valentin had been experiencing physical issues lately which affected her performance at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The 2012 London Games champion retired from the competition soon after the first clean jerk lift. Despite not being in her prime condition, she secured first place although tied with South Korea’s Kang Yeoun-hee.

Spain can expect the weightlifter to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Her physical condition explains why the gold medallist took part in Group B and not Group A which usually comprises record-holders and medal winners.
