However, Larson’s availability for upcoming events became uncertain due to scheduling conflicts between Indy qualifying and the All-Star race practice, both on the same date. When asked about his replacement, Kevin Harvick, Larson expressed no surprise. He acknowledged Harvick’s prowess on the track, stating that anyone would be thrilled to race in an HMS car and that he was happy with the replacement, knowing the caliber of the experienced racing veteran Harvick.

The decision to bring Harvick back was prompted by Kyle Larson’s ambitious racing schedule. Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup champion, is set to attempt a rare “Double.” He will make his IndyCar debut at the iconic Indianapolis 500, while also returning to his NASCAR schedule for the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Larson’s participation in the Indy 500 put his NASCAR All-Star weekend obligations in jeopardy.

When Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, reached out to Harvick, the veteran couldn’t say no. Harvick humorously recounted the conversation: “I’m going to drive. I’m going to practice. There’s not very many phone calls that are going to say, ‘Hey, you know, Delana, I’m going to get back in a car,’ but Rick called a couple of days ago and said, ‘Hey, I need a favor,’ and I know when a conversation starts like that, usually you have to say yes.”
