Miami Heat rookie sensation Jaime Jaquez Jr. has quickly formed a close bond with veteran player Jimmy Butler. Beyond their on-court chemistry, it’s their off-court interactions that have caught the attention of fans and teammates alike. One particular incident involving an emotional Ed Sheeran song left Jaquez both amused and bewildered.

During an interview on JJ Redick’s podcast, “The Old Man & The Three,” Jaquez shared the story that had him in stitches. It was perhaps the second or third game of the season, and the locker room was buzzing with energy. Players typically blast upbeat tunes to get themselves hyped up before hitting the court. But not Jimmy Butler.

Jimmy Butler’s unconventional soundtrack left everyone perplexed in the locker room

Butler, known for his intensity on the court, surprised everyone by playing a sad Ed Sheeran song. Yes, you read that right. Instead of the usual pump-up tracks,Jimmy Butler had the emotional crooner Ed Sheeran on full blast. Jaquez couldn’t help but chuckle at the unexpected choice.

“Usually you’re in a locker room, and everyone’s playing music to get hyped up,” Jaquez recalled. “But he’s playing this sad Ed Sheeran song, just blasting it, and it really threw me off guard.”

Butler’s havior is anything but conventional. Whether he’s cracking jokes with teammates, sporting an unusual hairstyle, or revealing his fanboy side for Ed Sheeran, he keeps everyone guessing. In 2021, Butler even posted a TikTok video of himself singing along to Sheeran’s hit song, “Thinking Out Loud.” Who knew that the fierce competitor on the court had such a soft spot for heartfelt ballads?

Butler’s quirks extend beyond music. He’s a showman both on and off the court. In an old video segment on NBA on TNT, Butler’s dance moves and enthusiastic singing to a Red Hot Chili Peppers track caught the attention of none other than Taylor Swift. Swift praised his effort with a tweet, giving him a “13/10” rating along with a cat emoji.

And it doesn’t end there. Jimmy Butler has recorded 45 country music tracks and expressed a desire to collaborate with country artist Morgan Wallen. Recently, he appeared in the music video for Fall Out Boy’s song “So Much (For) Stardust,” sporting the “emo” haircut he had during the team’s media day.
