Javi Martinez, the 32-year-old midfielder could be headed to San Mamés upon his transfer to the La Liga side.

Athletic Bilbao are eyeing to bring back the club’s hero before the 2020/21 season starts.
The deal is likely to go through as Bayern Munich are expecting €15 million for the Spaniard. However, the Spanish side could be only bidding with  €10 million.

Javi Martinez had previously expressed his intentions to depart the club ahead of 2020/21 season. But, the 32-year-old still has one year left on his contract. However, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of Bayern Munich has cleared that he will not restricting the player from leaving the club.

He said, “Javi is concerned about leaving us. It will also be difficult for him now. His contract is still valid for another year and we have informed him that we will not put any obstacles in his way.”

Javi Martinez began his football career at CA Osasuna. Back in 2006, he was signed by Athletic Bilbao for €6 million. In his previous club he only got the opportunity to be a part of the reserve team and appeared in 32 matches and scored 3 goals.

But, following his arrival at Athletic Bilbao he became a important first-team player. In his debut season in 2006/07, he netted 3 goals in 35 appearances.

The Spanish International experienced a brilliant 2009/10 campaign having nine goals in all competitions and six goals in the league, which is his career-best in 46 matches.

In the upcoming seasons, Javi Martinez rose to prominence with the club. Spending six seasons at the club, he made 251 appearances for Athletic Bilbao and was able to net 26 goals. He assisted his team to reach the Copa Del Rey final in 2009 but in a losing effort.

In 2012, the German juggernaut, Bayern Munich paid €40 million release clause and the Spanish midfielder penned down a five-year contract. Since his debut, he made 238 appearances and netted 13 goals. He also accomplished eight Bundesliga titles, along with five DFB-Pokal and two Champions League.

It will be nostalgic for Javi Martinez to return to his youth club, and now that he has achieved a lot in his career, it is to be seen what the Spaniard delivers on his homecoming.
