Brooklyn Nets star James Harden was briefly detained by French Police in Paris over narcotics charges. The player, who is in the city for Fashion Week, was seen alongside rappers Lil Baby and Kanye West.
The 31-year-old is currently on a break after his NBA season came to a halt in the Eastern Conference semifinals, and he is also not in line to play the Tokyo Olympics as well.
According to French media reports, Harden was standing at Avenue Montaigne near a car that was halted by the police after they detected the presence of cannabis inside.
Rapper Lil Baby was detained by the police for allegedly transporting drugs. Around 20g of cannabis, which is illegal in the country, was reportedly scourced by the police from the glove compartment of the car. As a result, an investigation is underway initiated by the French police.
Harden, on the other hand, was frisked by the police officers on the street when he tried to intervene and speak on behalf of Lil Baby.
“You know, it’s OK, I don’t understand.” Harden was heard saying. Watch the video below:
Lil Baby was eventually taken into custody alongside another unidentified man while Harden was let go. The basketball star was neither placed in custody or arrested, the prosecutor’s office in Paris affirmed.
Harden was seen hanging alongside Lil Baby and Kanye West over the course of the week, which took social media by quite some storm.
The NBA or the Brooklyn Nets are yet to comment on the incident that has surfaced across the other end of the Atlantic Ocean.
James Harden’s injury holds him off from the Olympics
The former Houston Rockets player initially committed to the 12-man Team USA for the upcoming Olympics. But due to the persistent hamstring issues that once again came knocking in the Eastern semis, forced him to pull out of the team led by Gregg Popovich.
Team USA are currently set to begin their cam next week in Las Vegas and begin their preparation for a fourth successive gold medal.
