Australia picks first win in 12 years in FIFA World Cup
After suffering a 4-1 drubbing against France in the opening clash, the Aussies gave a neck-and-neck fight to Tunisia. The Aussies had enjoyed more ball possession in the early stages of this game. They had also been good with their attack. However, they have failed to convert any of the chances in the opening minutes.
It was Mitchell Duke who scored the only goal of the game to put his side in the driver’s seat. Duke scored through a header in the 23rd minute of the game with some great improvisation after a pass from Craig Goodwin got deflected from one of the Aussie defenders.
Tunisia’s best chance came when skipper Youssef Msakni shot just wide. The victory snapped Australia’s seven-match winless run at World Cups since they last picked up three points in a victory over Serbia in 2010.
Final Score: Tunisia 0 – 1 Australia
