ESL announces Intel® Extreme Masters: New York with a whopping $250,000 prize money!

ESL, the largest eSports organiser of the world, has announced the Intel® Extreme Masters New York 2020. The tournament, to be held online, will be hosted on and from 6th October, and is slated to be the last Regional Major Ranking event of the North America and the CIS regions. The event has been announced as the last chance for the teams from both regions to secure their entry into the ESL One Rio Major 2020.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ESL has announced the IEM New York as an online tournament, to be held across all three regions of North America, CIS and Europe. While the EU division will feature 8 teams, competing in a traditional tournament style, the NA and CIS region will have a ‘Regional Major Ranking’ (RMR) points system.

12 teams from both NA and CIS region will be competing in their respective divisions. 8 teams from both regions have already been invited based on their current RMR rankings. The rest 4 slots of each region will be filled by teams selected through a closed qualifier process.

IEM New York: The road to ESL CS:GO Major with a $250,000 prize pool

ESL has announced a whopping $250,000 prize money for IEM New York, combined in all three regions. The EU region has been allotted $140,000, while the NA and CIS regions will have $60,000 and $50,000 payouts respectively.

The tournament, inaugurating on 6th October, will begin with two double elimination group of 6 teams for each division (4 teams for EU). The playoffs will be single elimination.

Top five teams of both NA and CIS regions will earn their berths to the CS:GO Rio Major stages. The Legends Stage will feature the top three NA and top two CIS division teams, followed by the next team’s entry into the Challengers Stage. The 5th NA and both 4th and 5th CIS teams will be heading to the Contenders Stage. The Grand Final of the EU division will have a best of 5 format.

While the names of the 8 teams for EU division has not been revealed yet, the 16 teams that have received invitations for the NA and CIS divisions are listed here below, which includes the ESL One New York 2019 champions Evil Geniuses.
