Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani has turned to promote ballet in his home country after his release by Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. Cavani wishes to eradicate the stereotype behind the art of ballet and thereby promote the form of dance to boys as well.

The 33-year-old is without a club at the moment after his stint with Paris came to an end. During his time off the game, Cavani donned the ballet outfit at the Uruguay National Ballet school in Montevideo in a bid to convince that even boys can take up ballet if they wish to.

Cavani revealed that his interest in ballet sprung through his wife, who is a dancer. He accepted an invitation from the school to be trained by professionals. He said:

‘I don’t share the view that every boy has to play only soccer,’ Cavani said.

‘I believe that girls and boys have to be free to seek their happiness in what they are most passionate about, because that’s the best way to be well-trained, growing day by day in a firm structure.’

Speaking about his experience being trained at the National School for Artistic Training (ENFA), Cavani claimed:

“The experience was incredible, the dancers explained to me how to do the steps and when I saw them, I was left with a real sense of admiration! Because dance is something wonderful,”

PSG’s record goalscorer is still on the lookout for a new club. The latest reports revealed that Juventus were interested in the Uruguayan after the departure of Gonzalo Higuain, but were reportedly put off due to Cavani’s high wage demands.

Whereas, other sources claimed that Cavani himself rejected the move owing to his loyalty to his former side and Juventus’ rivals Napoli.

A few weeks ago, he spoke about being linked to Portuguese outfit Benfica. He said:

“We spoke. There were meetings, as there were also with other clubs. Nothing is defined, so I cannot say anything. When there is an agreement, when it is real, they will know.”
