WWE superstar Edge, who is in the midst of an all-important rivalry right now, commented on the circumstances surrounding WrestleMania 36.
WRESTLEMANIA 36 WAS HELD WITHOUT FANS
The event was originally to take place at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa solely on April 5, 2020 and was to air live. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, other wrestling promotions began to cancel or postpone their shows in an attempt to prevent further spreading of the COVID-19 virus.
WWE finally announced that the event would be held at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando with only essential personnel in attendance, as with all other WWE weekly programs during this pandemic. WWE then announced that WrestleMania 36 would be split into a two-night event, on April 4 and 5. The re-location effectively made it the third WrestleMania to be held in the city of Orlando, behind XXIV and 33.
EDGE FELT BAD FOR SUPERSTARS NOT RECEIVING GENUINE FAN REACTION
Speaking about the topic, “The Rated R Superstar” commented that it was truly sad that a performer such as Drew McIntyre could not receive a genuine reaction in what would be seen as the pinnacle of his career. In WrestleMania 36, McIntyre not only defeated “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship but also faced and defeated The Big Show in what WWE presented as the hidden WrestleMania main event.
Edge also felt for Rhea Ripley, who in her first WrestleMania faced a star such as Charlotte Flair, but no one was there to provide them with a genuine fan reaction. Although he believes that these performers still have a lot more moments coming for them in the future, he still sees the lack of fans at WrestleMania as a dissatisfying aspect.
“If I look at it from the roster, I feel more for a guy like Drew McIntyre, who finally gets to the pinnacle of this thing that he works so hard to get to, and there’s nobody there for it. So I feel more for a guy like that because I’ve had plenty of those moments, you know. And I can focus on the positives. But those were the guys and girls who I felt for. Rhea Ripley, who’s in her first WrestleMania and she’s wrestling Charlotte and there’s nobody there… They’ve got loads more in front of them, which is amazing, but that had to have been tough,” Edge said.
This time around, however, there will be a limited around of ticketed fans in the audience, so the superstars can expected genuine reactions once more.
