Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who was earlier said to have five rib fractures earlier, actually has 11 broken ribs as new reports following multiple medical tests have claimed.
Drew Brees has six more rib fractures, totalling to 11
Last week, Drew Brees was taken out of the pitch during the 49ers match following a hard collision with defensive tackle Kentavius Street. Earlier, it was revealed that he suffered two broken ribs, in addition to the three from the Bucs game.
However, according to a report by Ed Werder of ESPN, the injury of Brees is much severe as he said to have suffered 11 brokes ribs in total as six more fractures were further discovered. He now has three broken ribs on his right and eight on the left.
“In a conversation tonight with Drew Brees, the Saints quarterback said that doctors have been encouraged by his progress — specifically improvement in lung function and the continued dissipation of the pneumothorax suffered last week. They’ve also discovered 6 more rib fractures,” Ed Werder claimed on Twitter.
“Brees had X-rays, CAT scans and has been seen by doctors every other day this week. They have now confirmed eight rib fractures on his left side and three on the right. That’s more than double the total from testing performed on Monday that revealed five rib fractures,” Werder further tweeted.

The 41-year-old is expected to miss at least three upcoming matches as he is now placed on IR. However, the actual recovery period before Brees is to be seen back in action can be much longer.
Following Brees’s injury, it was speculated that Saints will opt for Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill for the coming matches, while the former being the favourite option to go. However, Hill is likely to start for the Falcons game this week over Winston as the 30-year-old was spotted to get the starter reps in Saints practice in recent reports.
