Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia is the biggest talk of the boxing town at the moment, but for Devin Haney, he sees it as a fight between two influencers.
Obviously, they have the influencer theme: Devin Haney
“The Dream” will face the biggest challenge of his career so far, defending his undisputed lightweight championship against Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko. The American boxer will face a former unified champion in Lomachenko on May 20th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he will defend his WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO belts.
Although this is a matchup of two dominant fighters at 135 pounds, the Haney and Lomachenko clash has been somewhat overshadowed by the matchup between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis. The catchweight grudge fight has been in the spotlight, even when there’s no title at stake; so Devin Haney stated that it is just a match between two popular boxers.
“Obviously, they have the influencer theme,” said Haney in an interview with a group of reporters. “Ryan has a huge following. ‘Tank’ (Davis) has a huge following. It’s a great fight. But true boxing fans and boxing writers know this is the real fight (Haney-Lomachenko). This is number one and number two, fighting each other to be the king of the division.”

The undefeated Haney (29-0, 15 KO’s) defended Lomachenko from criticism for his last performance against Jamaine Ortiz and assured that this will be the fight that will lead him to build his legacy.
“He wouldn’t say this is the biggest fight he could have put up at 135 pounds, but it’s definitely the toughest. There are bigger money fights out there. He could have waited. But this is legacy. Lomachenko has the credentials and was pound for pound number one,” Haney added on praising his rival.
