Upon signing with Real Sociedad, Silva claimed that he chose the club based on their style of play and is happy to be back in Spain after such a long interval.

‘I chose this club for the style of play that distinguishes it,’ I cannot deny that some personal reasons also influenced this choice but now I am happy to be back in Spain.

‘The fact that I had already played in Eibar (Andalusian club) had an impact because I had a great time, to come here I refused great offers from all over the world.’

Silva: A wanted man

The creative midfielder received a plethora of offers after his tenure at the Etihad. David Beckham’s Inter Miami were touted to be the early favourites to gain the services of the midfielder.

However, Serie A side Lazio made massive strides in negotiation to lure David Silva to Italy. Lazio offered a lucrative offer which included a private jet and a mansion.

While it appeared that Silva will sign for Lazio, La Liga side Real Sociedad hijacked the move with a late swoop. The midfielder will wear the No.21 jersey for the side, the same number he opted at Manchester City as well.

David Silva’s status as a legend will be immortalized after Manchester City plan to build a statue of him right outside the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

Real Sociedad had finished sixth in the La Liga last season with 58 points. The team qualified for the UEFA Europa League on the basis of their position in the league table.
