The NFL is the biggest professional sports league in the world and has an astoundingly massive following all around the globe. The ongoing 2021 season has also seen an average of 16.6 million viewership, an 11% increment over the previous season. Despite the astronomical success of American football league’s top drawer, there are a number of aspects of the game that most of the followers would like to see altered.
On the same notion, famed television host, comedian, writer, and producer and former late-night show host David Letterman has opined on a couple of changes he would bring to the game if he was at the helm of the league.
Letterman said he would eliminate punts from the NFL and make field goals from at least the 50-yard line
David Letterman, who hosted the late night show on NBC and CBS for over three decades, recently made an appearance on the Peyton and Eli Manning simulcast of this week’s “Monday Night Football” between Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
On top of bringing changes to the NFL were he was the one conducting the league, Letterman revealed that he has been approached by many regarding the same question, and said that he wants punts to go away, as well as a minimum 50-yard to kick a field goal.
“People are always coming to me. They want to know changes I would make in the NFL,” Letterman said on the simulcast, “One would be you eliminate punts. And then another change I would make … if you’re gonna kick a field goal, that’s fine, but it has to be at least from the 50-yard line. You know, stuff I just think about.” [H/T Fox News]
