Currently holding the second rank in the world rankings, Russia’s Danill Medvedev was seen furiously kicking the camera lens after he crashed into it while trying to score.
He was playing against Audrey Rublev in the semi-final round of the Western and Southern Open. This was supposed to be a warm-up game for the tennis star before the US Open but unfortunately, the stars had something else planned for him.
Medvedev was furious that he missed a shot because of the camera getting in his way. He also claimed that he had his hand and that he was going to sue the organisers if it hampered his career.
The camera was lifted and it stayed in the same position, but Medvedev was heard yelling, “Take it away. I almost broke my hand.”
A physiotherapist was called in to examine his wrist and from the looks of it, it didn’t look serious said his opponent Rublev.
“I hope everything is fine with him. At least, the way he was playing, looks like nothing serious happened.”
Medvedev was not available for comment but Rublev hopes that everything was fine with the tennis star as it could have been “dangerous”.
Medvedev and Rublev have battled it out in the court five times previously and this is the first time that the latter has managed to defeat Medvedev. The last match they played together was in Australia where Medvedev won in straight sets.
Next Medvedev will play against the Olympic champion Alexander Zverev on Sunday.
Medvedev has found himself in a lot of controversies this season. In the Tokyo Games, the tennis player had complained to the umpire about playing in the Tokyo heat and had whined about dropping dead because of the summer heat.
If that was not enough, after his return from Japan, he had the media reporting his actions at the Canadian Open, where he apologized to his opponent. He had accidentally hit the opponent with a ball and was penalized for it.
