MCGUINNESS AND BRYAN HAD A NUMBER OF IN-RING CLASSICS AT RING OF HONOR

While McGuinness is well known to many WWE fans as a commentator, he was, before his retirement, one of the most acclaimed professional wrestlers of his time. He is especially famous for his work with Ring Of Honor (ROH), where he held the ROH Pure Championship for a record 350 days and the ROH World Championship for 545 days. McGuinness also wrestled for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the ring name Desmond Wolfe before his retirement in 2011.

Some of his best in-ring matches were fought against Bryan Danielson, who would later join WWE and attain the moniker of Daniel Bryan. On the latest episode of After the Bell, McGuiness spoke about his relations with the former WWE Champion, especially how they evolved their wrestling styles and advanced their careers from the same locker room. Then of course, Bryan arrived at WWE, and their careers, till then mostly parallel, went to completely different directions.

“Our careers almost parallel each other until coming here to WWE and then we went off in very different directions. Good friend of mine, nothing but respect inside and outside of the ring. A lot of interesting theories on the world that we’ve shared on car rides,” he said.

HE COMPARED HIS FRIEND TO KURT ANGLE

Speaking about the chances of “The American Dragon” landing on WWE NXT or NXT UK, McGuiness went on to compare his friend to Kurt Angle, saying that he could have good matches without anyone and it was impossible to share a ring with him and not learn something when the match was over.

“I’d love to see Bryan here. To be honest with you, he’s the guy most like Kurt Angle, he has great matches with absolutely everyone and I think he’s a person that you just can’t help learn from. When you’re in the ring with someone with that talent, you can’t help but be brought up another level,” McGuinness said.
