Cristiano Ronaldo hits a half century of goals as Juve cruise to the scudetto

Cristiano Ronaldo, a name that defies all superlatives, has yet again done what he does best.

After conquering England and Spain, Cr7 is well on his way to rule Italy. His brace in yesterdays 2-1 win against Lazio not only extended Juve”s lead to 8 points at the top of the table but also made him the first player to score 50 goals in each of Premier League, La Liga and Serie A, widely considered the 3 best domestic leagues in the world.

The heart of the matter-

CR7, who has been on a goal-scoring spree since the beginning of this year saw himself up against Lazio last night, in what may well have been a season-decider. A spot-kick in the 51st minute completed his 50  goals in Serie A and he followed it with another goal in quick succession in a brilliant one-two with Dybala to put Juve ahead by 2-0.

He also became the highest scorer in Serie A this year in the process and now shares the top spot with Ciro Immobile, who himself scored a penalty in dying moments of yesterday’s match to pull 1 back for Lazio.

Cristiano’s Juggernaut-

Cristiano Ronaldo had joined the Bianconeri from Real Madrid in 2018 and while he initially seemed to struggle with the old lady, he has seemed to be reaching his imperious best this year. He had also been a part of ManU in his early career and that is where his penchant for always finding the net came to the fore.

At both of his previous clubs, he clocked up an impressive number of goals, with 118 in 292 appearances for United and 450 in 438 games for Madrid and his latest haul for the Bianconeri only goes on to prove that Cristiano’s eye for goal remains perfect even in the twilight of his career.

What’s even more impressive is that he has managed to reach the half-century in just 61 games and is the fastest to that mark since 1995.

What’s next for Bianconeri and Cristiano Ronaldo-

Maurizio Sarri led side are now on to 80 points and have a lead of 8 points on the 2nd place Inter. Barring a legendary collapse, there is not much between Juve and a 9th consecutive Serie A title.

In Europe, they would look to turn over a 1 goal deficit when they host Lyon in the UCL quarterfinals on the 8th of August. Juve have had been agonizingly close to UCL in 2015 and 2017 and it was the incredible bicycle kick by Cristiano against them in UCL quarterfinals that prompted them to rope in the legend.

CR7 has already expressed his deep desire to lift the Champions League title with Juventus and if his recent form is any indicator, then he seems hell-bent on fulfilling his promise to Juve fans. The fact that a 35-year-old is the most vital cog in one of the most dominant sides of our times just goes on to show the kind of impact this legend has and if he can somehow fulfill his this, perhaps, last promise then perhaps the greatest footballing debate of our times would come to an end.
