AEW WILL HOLD ITS GRAND SLAM DYNAMITE IN NYC

The professional wrestling promotion, founded in 2019, will debut in New York City for the grand slam edition of their weekly Dynamite show. As Tony Khan recently announced, on September 22, Dynamite will be aired live from USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium, a 24,000 capacity tennis Stadium in Queens.

“No city is more synonymous with wrestling than New York. AEW is a new company and our company is in the business of both embracing tradition and trailblazing, trying to start new traditions and new history,” Khan had stated.

Speaking to Kate Feldman of the NY Daily News, “Le Champion” Chris Jericho revealed the special title of the Dynamite episode to be “grand slam” and opined that the show may solidify AEW into the coolest professional wrestling promotion in the world.

Jericho said that the New York City announcement was a victory celebration of sorts for AEW, as it meant a return to the road. “We’ll be vindicated as the coolest wrestling company in the world today. What fans can expect is what we’ve been doing, just at a higher intensity level and a higher energy level because of the people in the crowd giving us more inspiration and more energy and more reward for what we’re doing,” Jericho added.

JERICHO IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF AEW STORYLINES

Jericho was the first ever World Champion of AEW, before losing the title to Jon Moxley. He is the leader of “The Inner Circle”, a faction currently consisting of him, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz. Mike Tyson is an honorary member of the group. MJF and Wardlow were also members of the group from November 2020 to March 2021, when they left to create their own group: “The Pinnacle”.

The two factions faced each other in Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing, with the added stipulation that if The Inner Circle lost, they would permanently disband. The Inner Circle managed to win the match, with Sammy Guevara pinning Shawn Spears, in the main event of the show, saving them from getting disbanded.
