WWE fans may look forward to have a new “king” in the roster, as WWE is reportedly planning to bring back the “King Of The Ring” tournament in 2021.

A KING OF THE RING TOURNAMENT MAY BE IN THE WORKS

The last person to win the King Of The Ring was Baron Corbin, who won the honour in 2019, changing his name to King Corbin in the aftermath of his victory. He still uses the moniker, and is currently feuding with “The King of Strong Style” Shinsuke Nakamura and his recently introduced ally Rick Boogs over the crown he won from the tournament.

This week at WWE SmackDown, Corbin will face Nakamura in a match for the said crown. No more stealing may be involved, as whoever wins the match will get to keep the crown for himself. Corbin appeared on WWE Bump for an interview. There, Kayla Braxton informed him of the fact that The New Day member Xavier Woods has long desired to become King Of The Ring.

XAVIER WOODS SEES BECOMING KING OF THE RING A CAREER GOAL

In multiple interviews over the year, the multi-time Tag Team Champion has spoken about winning King Of The Ring as a major career goal for him. With Woods’ desire and Nakamura’s more direct actions, Braxton asked Corbin if he was finally feeling the pressure of the throne.

“No, I think that everybody’s kind of had their eye on it, just like people do with championship title. They want an opportunity at that, they want a chance, they want to earn it, they want to own it, and I think that’s what the crowd does to people, and then you have people that are cowards, like Shinsuke, that want to steal it, but at least Xavier Woods wants to earn an opportunity to wear the crown. I think that’s important to him, to his career, and I’m happy to make it a disappointment, a regret in his long career that he will have, that he came up short in a tournament that he cares so dearly about,” Corbin commented.

Then he added that a tournament was essential for anyone to become King Of The Ring, and if Woods wants it that much, he can ask the authorities to host another tournament. Corbin would be happy to face Woods in the tournament, whether it would be in the first round or in the finals, and would relish the pleasure of winning the match and ending his dream.

“But the tournament is what’s necessary to wear that crown, and I won it. If you want a shot, you talk to somebody, maybe cry to a few people, and try to get another tournament set up. Xavier Woods, I would love to face him in that tournament, absolutely. It could be in the finals, it could be first round. I mean, his dream will be cut short, but I’m happy to do it. I’m happy to defend it in the right circumstances,” he stated.
