Timo Werner had some interesting thoughts on his first outing for Chelsea in the Premier League and highlighted the key differences between Premier League and the Bundesliga in the post-match interview.
The new Premier League season began on a positive note for Frank Lampard’s side as the Blues registered a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Brighton., courtesy of goals from Jorginho, R. James, and Zouma. With the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz now a part of this vibrant Chelsea side, the Blues, while rusty, relied on their superior quality to gain three points from the fixture.
“I played against three massive defenders, you don’t have that in Germany. “says Werner
Timo Werner, who just arrived from RB Leipzig had a lot to share about the differences between Bundesliga and the Premier League.
“It was a hard game after 1-1 but then Reece scored an amazing goal, ” Werner told MOTD. “We are very happy that we won today.”
“The game is totally different. There is more space but when you come out in the second half and the game was totally different – [it] changed completely. Brighton gave us a lot of problems.
“I played against three massive defenders, you don’t have that in Germany. I’m happy to be here and I think it was a good first game for me and the team.”
While the likes of Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech were deemed unfit to make their debuts and Kai Havertz had an extremely bland beginning to his career at the Stamford Bridge, it was Werner himself who impressed the most, causing problems for the Brighton defense throughout the game and earning himself a crucial assist in the process.
Frank Lampard in particular seemed extremely satisfied with the striker’s performance and was all praises for the 24-year-old.

“I was really pleased with Timo, with Timo I know the qualities he’s going to bring to the team,” said Lampard.
“We saw that with the speed to win the penalty and the moments where he showed his speed and his qualities as well. He’s going to be a real threat, he’s a very mobile center-forward who can do so many things for us.”

Chelsea would play host to the current champions Liverpool on the 20th of September and it would surely be a herculean task for the Blues to rein in the Reds. On the other hand, the two Manchester clubs would look to start their season amid the Corona scare.
