While the likes of Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech were deemed unfit to make their debuts and Kai Havertz had an extremely bland beginning to his career at the Stamford Bridge, it was Werner himself who impressed the most, causing problems for the Brighton defense throughout the game and earning himself a crucial assist in the process.

Frank Lampard in particular seemed extremely satisfied with the striker’s performance and was all praises for the 24-year-old.

“I was really pleased with Timo, with Timo I know the qualities he’s going to bring to the team,” said Lampard.

“We saw that with the speed to win the penalty and the moments where he showed his speed and his qualities as well. He’s going to be a real threat, he’s a very mobile center-forward who can do so many things for us.”
