WWE TLC was a successful event for the promotion. Both TLC matches were liked by the audience, and the pay per view event included a few surprises as well.
IT WAS THE 12TH WWE TLC EVENT
Held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, it was the 12th event under the WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs chronology. In the opening match, Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship against former champion AJ Styles. Styles was accompanied by the towering Omos, who stayed at the ringside, although he could not intimidate the current Champion. Styles targeted McIntyre’s knee, but gradually McIntyre gained back momentum. The turning point of the match was The Miz’s decision to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase, although he could not stop McIntyre from retaining his championship.
Sasha Banks faced Carmella in a quest to defend her Smackdown Women’s Championship. Even with help from her sommelier Reginald Thomas, Carmella could not manage to win the championship and fell prey to the Bank Statement.
THERE WERE TWO TITLE CHANGES
The Hurt Business members Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander won the Raw Tag Team Championship by defeating The New Day. The winning team, however, showed the first sign of dissension, as Alexander interrupted Benjamin and secured the pinfall for himself.
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler defended their Women’s Tag Team Championship against Asuka and a mystery partner, revealed to be the returning Charlotte Flair. In the end, Baszler locked in the Kirifuda Clutch on Flair, who escaped and performed Natural Selection on Baszler to gain the championship for her and Asuka.
Universal Champion Roman Reigns, accompanied by Paul Heyman, faced Kevin Owens in a TLC Match. Jey Uso got involved while Owens had the upper hand, and finally prevented Owens from grabbing the title, allowing ‘The Tribal Chief’ to knock Owens off the ladder and retain his Championship.
THE MAIN EVENT WAS BIZARRE
In the main event, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt faced Randy Orton in a Firefly Inferno match. In a bizarre match full of fire, Orton managed to set The Fiend ablaze, winning the match. After the match, he poured gasoline on The Fiend’s seemingly lifeless body in the ring and set him on fire.
