WWE has announced a new match for the upcoming Clash Of Champions pay per view event. The Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will face The Riott Squad in the event.
Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott earned the right to contendership a few weeks back, when they defeated The Iiconics. There was an added stipulation to the match, and according to it, the losing team The Iiconics were forced to disband.
WWE’s announcement sets up Jax and Baszler’s second title defense since winning the Championship from the long-dominating team of Bayley and Sasha Banks at Payback. Since their formation, the bickering partners have held some bond together inside the ring to win and retain their titles.
As WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Nia Jax and Shayna Bazler are allowed to appear on any WWE brand, including Raw, Smackdown and NXT.
The Story Of Riott Squad in WWE Has Been Convoluted
The story of the Riott Squad has been a convoluted one. The main roster debut of Riott, Morgan and Sarah Logan was under the team of The Riott Squad, of which Ruby was the leader. The punk-inspired stable were involved in many high-profile feuds until during the Superstar Shakeup in 2019, Morgan was sent to Smackdown Live, effectively leading to the disbandment of the stable.
Riott returned from injury on the February 3, 2020 episode of Raw, attacking her former Riott Squad teammate, Liv Morgan which would result in a match between the two with Sarah Logan as the special guest referee where Liv was victorious after a fast count by Logan. At Elimination Chamber on March 8, she competed in the Elimination Chamber match, during which she was eliminated by eventual winner Shayna Baszler.
After WrestleMania 36, she continued her feud with Morgan where she lost to her twice on the April 20 and 27 episodes of Raw, respectively. On the June 22 episode of Raw, she attempted to console Morgan after her loss but Morgan immediately rejected her. Over the next couple of weeks, Ruby started teasing a face turn by defending Morgan from bullying from The IIconics, initiating a feud with them in the process.
On the August 3 episode of Raw, Ruby appeared on the Kevin Owens Show and apologized to the returning Liv Morgan, only to be interupted by the IIconics. Later the same night, Liv decided to team up with Riott to take on The IIconics in a winning effort. This would mark the beginning of reformation of Morgan and Ruby as The Riott Squad.
