Mexican boxer William Zepeda achieved a historic mark for a lightweight fight by throwing just over 1,500 punches to Joseph “JoJo” Diaz during their fight on October 29th at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
According to Compubox records, the pugilist from San Mateo Atenco, threw exactly 1,536 punches, of which he connected 398. Zepeda had an effectiveness of 26%, which was lower than that of Diaz, but JoJo he threw less than half the punches with 607.
“Camaron” balanced the jab and power punches, throwing 787 of the first and 749 of the second. In addition, he shone between the third and fourth rounds by landing 45 and 44 punches over JoJo Diaz.

“I am delighted with what I did tonight,” Zepeda said at the end of the contest in San Diego, California. “JoJo is a very complicated fighter, but I studied him well. I think I passed the test with high marks.”
In addition, there were rounds such as the seventh, the eighth and the eleventh where he managed to land more than triple the blows that Jo Jo threw.
Zepeda ended up beating Diaz by unanimous decision on cards of 119-109, 118-110 and 119-109, to improve his record to 27-0 with 23 wins by way of knockout.
The 26-year-old Mexican is currently in the most competitive division in boxing with names like Shakur Stevenson, Vasyl Lomachenko, Devin Haney and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, but he is not scared and assured that he is ready for a strong fight in 2023.
“I’m ready for the best of 135 pounds,” the southpaw went on, “Until now they have all been tough opponents, but I want the big names. Many told me that this was my great challenge and I fulfilled it more than well”.
For his part, JoJo Diaz added his second defeat in the last four fights. He had previously been defeated by Devin Haney, when they clashed for Haney’s WBC lightweight championship in December 2021.
