Be it GTA III, Vice City or San Andreas, the open world games of the early 2000s were highly addictive and drew a huge number of players, and provide a taste of nostalgia even to this day.
Now, gaming has progressed a lot over the last decade, and the publishers of the Grand Theft Auto series, Rockstar Games, have ended up with Grand Theft Auto V. It will also get a re-release on the upcoming PS5. However, seven years have passed since its launch, and rumours have been spreading of their next entry into the franchise- Grand Theft Auto 6. The question is, when will it launch?
GTA 6: When will the next entry of the Grand Theft Auto series launch?
The gaps between the early GTA games were fairly short, which increased when GTA V was released five years after Grand Theft Auto IV, which dates back to 2008. However, its now 2020 and GTA V has a humongous player base, thanks to the addition of Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer mode where players diverge from the story mode and build a character of their own, competing against the NPCs and other players in various game modes.
With such a remarkable success of their latest title, Rockstar has been constant with adding new contents to GTA Online, in form of free updates. There is also a microtransaction system, enabling players to purchase in game currency in form of ‘shark cards’.
However, Rockstar has been completely silent about the next entry into the series. While many rumours are flating around the internet regarding Grand Theft Auto 6, none of them have any comfirmed sources, and are based on assumptions.
Although, American video game blog Kotaku has confirmed that the next GTA is in its early stage of development, under the codename “Project AMERICAS”. While Kotaku said GTA 6 is “still a ways away” a thorough probing have revealed that the game will be set in the 1980s, and for the first time, the game will take place away from a fictional US city, and will be inspired by Rio de Janeiro.
There is no confirmation, but gamers can expect the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2021, with a possible release date in the next few years. But for now, Rockstar is concentrating on the release of GTA V for the Playstation 5, which will arrive next year.
