Former NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano recently shared his perspective on a topic that has been buzzing since NASCAR visited the Circuit of the Americas in 2024. During the first road course race of the season, driver William Byron dominated the field. However, another point of discussion emerged: track limits.

The governing body enforces track limits at the initial S-curves of the 3.4-mile-long track, with penalties issued throughout the weekend in all three nationwide series races. Drivers have expressed their views on how to prevent intentional or unintentional crossing of these limits on the track. The question raised on the NASCAR sanctioning body over the decisions and 2022 Cup Series champion shares his views.

Joey Logano said as per the post on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, “To me, add some curbs to the outside of that are big enough where we’ll not go to the other side of them. It’s easy to say ‘F1 doesn’t do it’. Well, they can’t even touch the curbs, their cars are so different than ours. We are monster trucks compared to an F1 car. Those guys park it if they have a loose wheel. We can put cars where they can’t and that’s what opens up the can of worms.”

Logano’s words highlight the contrasting nature of NASCAR and F1 cars. While F1 cars are delicate and precise, NASCAR vehicles are robust and powerful, akin to monster trucks on the track. The debate over track limits continues, and it remains to be seen how NASCAR will address this issue moving forward.

How did NASCAR’s decision on Track limit affect NASCAR drivers at COTA?

Van Gisbergen, representing Kaulig Racing lived up to his billing as a top contender for a win at COTA. However,  Van Gisbergen cut corners, breaching the track limits. As a consequence, NASCAR officials penalized him with a hefty 30-second time penalty. Despite crossing the finish line second behind the winner, Van Gisbergen’s penalty dropped him to 28th place in the final standings.
