A fight between Tyson Fury and Andy Ruiz Jr could become a reality as soon as this year, as Fury’s promoter Bob Arum hints a clash between the two heavyweights.
We’re looking for the best available guy For Tyson Fury: Bob Arum
After negotiations with Oleksandr Usyk fell apart, the Englishman’s team has worked to find him an opponent. However, Arum believes “The Destroyer” is in the deck of options to be the next rival of “The Gypsy King”.
During an interview with Cornerman Boxing, Arum said that Ruiz could be the WBC champ’s next opponent, in a fight that would take place sometime this summer.
‘He’s [Fury] been in Italy on vacation with his family,” said Arum. “He’s back in England, and we’re talking to him, and we’re looking for the best available guy for him to fight this summer in the UK.”
“Maybe it’ll be Andy Ruiz [who faces Fury] or somebody like that,” the Top Rank chief added. [H/T Daily Mail]
This would be great news for Ruiz, who issued the challenge to Fury as soon as talks with the Ukrainian fell through. The Mexican, on his social media, even uploaded a montage facing the British in the ring, his desire to fight against one of the best boxers of the moment could come true soon.
Ruiz fought for the last time on September 4th last year against Luis Ortiz, whom he defeated via unanimous decision. Since then, he has also been looking for someone to step into the ring for the first time in 2023. These days he has been talked about both his upcoming fight and his cheating scandal.
Ruiz wants to earn a chance to fight for the unified heavyweight belts that belonged to him for a few months in 2019. A battle against Fury would bring him closer to facing Oleksandr Usyk, the current unified champion of the division.
On the other hand, Fury will have to settle for the rival they put in front of him since his goal was to dethrone Usyk from his titles. The Briton’s last brawl was on 3rd December 2022, when he defeated Derek Chisora by technical knockout.
