Triple H believes a modern WWE rivalry can reach Rock-Austin heights

WWE minority owner and industry legend Triple H has opined that the rivalry between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre can be as longstanding and successfully as the iconic rivalry between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.

Drew McIntyre is currently the WWE Champion and Reigns the Universal Champion, both at the top of the roster at Raw and Smackdown Live respectively. The champions were the first picks in the ongoing WWE draft and were retained by their respective shows.

Reigns and McIntyre were rivals through the majority of 2019, and their rivalry was observed as highly physical with both being equal in strength and competitiveness.

Triple H stated that he does not want to see the duo engage in a rivalry prematurely, and wants it to set in over a couple of years.

“The draft is always an exciting time because it creates these fantasy moments…like I’ll be honest, I don’t want to see Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns yet,” said Triple H.

“I would love to see that percolate because I think that a couple of years down the road Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre is a Hulk Hogan-Ric Flair scenario, The Rock-Stone Cold Steve Austin scenario, and you don’t want to hit that before it peaks,” he added

“That’s what makes the draft so exciting to me is those moments in time where you were like, ‘well, what if?’ and then ‘what if’ becomes a reality,” Triple H added.

Reigns, McIntyre And Triple H Are Expected To Be Part Of Survivor Series

However, Reigns and McIntyre are set to resume their rivalry for a brief period of time, at least, when the countdown for Survivor Series sets in. Before that, of course, both will look to defend their championships at Hell In A Cell.

Triple H, currently the Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development for WWE and founder and executive producer of NXT, has not wrestled since the last Super Showdown event, where he was defeated by Randy Orton.

Triple H was last seen before Survivor Series 2019, where he and head trainer Shawn Michaels led an invasion by NXT roster in a way reminiscent of the DX tank invasion.
