Thiago Alcantara, the Liverpool midfielder who recently faced fitness issue, has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Thiago Alcantara, who joined the last season’s Premier League Champions, Liverpool from Bayern Munich missed out on the clash against Arsenal on Monday.

The player was not featured in the 3-1 victory over the Gunners. It was reported that the midfielder had “minor fitness issue”.

Following the match, Liverpool gaffer, Jurgen Klopp said, “That’s the situation in the moment. He is not fit enough to be involved today, but that’s it.”

On Tuesday, the club made an announcement on Twitter as well as on the club’s website, confirming that Thiago Alcantara underwent test and the results show that the Spaniard has coronavirus.

The club said that “minor symptoms” have been observed but he “is in good health and is getting better”.

The club’s website also read, “The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.”

Dr Jim Moxon, LFC first-team doctor said, “It is the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of a Covid-19 test.”

Liverpool have enaured that they are taking proper measures and following the
protocols. The Spaniard is “self-isolating now as per the guidelines” and he will be returning to action very soon.

Thiago Alcantara made his debut for the club, coming on as a substitute for the Reds in their 2-0 win against Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp said, “After the international break he will be fine, for sure. That’s the situation in the moment. He is not fit enough to be involved today, but that’s it.”

 

Now, as it seems, the Spanish midfielder could be returning to the squad after the International break in October. Luis Enrique, the Spain National side manager is yet to announce the teams for the International duty.

He could be included in the Liverpool squad in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park on October 17.
