Terence Crawford believes he has soared to the top of the sport in 2023, and as the year comes to a closure, he has declared himself as the fighter of the year.

The two division undisputed champion who is currently undisputed at welterweight, Crawford secured the four 147-pound belts by defeating Errol Spence Jr. via 9th round TKO back on 29th July at the T-Mobile Arena.

The win granted Crawford to have the WBC, WBA, and IBF belts of Spence and adding them to his WBO title. The former undisputed champion at light welterweight, Crawford is now the only male boxer in the four belt era to achieve the feat of becoming undisputed at two weight classes.

The stupendous accomplishment has engrossed “Bud” into considering himself as the Fighter of the Year, as he took to social media to express the same.

“I’m the only fighter to beat a top five pound for pound fighter this year and the way I beat him was unmatched. 2023 Fighter Of The Year Is Me. Some might say but I only fought 1 time but that 1 fight was bigger than any of the others. #facts,” Crawford wrote on X.

Fans call Terence Crawford “insecure”, say there are others who are more deserving

The boxing fandom was prompt to send in their responses on Crawford’s post. While some of his fans did agree to his claim, most believed that there are boxers who have accomplished more than him, such as Naoya Inoue or Devin Haney and some even named Canelo Alvarez.

@Louie_Hefna wrote, “Devin Haney fought in two different weight classes this year. Defended his undisputed belt and then went to 140 and got a new one. You beating 15 month lay off spence was cool but not enough.”

@AlGoody421 added, “1 fight doesnt trump 3 or 4 Inoue just got his 2nd undisputed set of titles. He’s fighter of the year, you’re p4p #1. I will never give fighter of the year for one fight. You have to fight more than twice to be the FIGHTER OF THE YEAR, actively fighting, through the year…”

“Took you 4+ years for 2x undisputed, inoue did it in 1 year,” said @OniSixx

@diegomayra added, “Love Bud, but fighting 5x in 4 years don’t make the cut. Show us a great 2024, we will be watching. Got you at #3-#4 on my P4P.”

@lopro949 wrote, “Na get in line canelo is top dawg you was running around all year over 1 fight sounds like history but canelonhad already done that”
